AUCKLAND, November 8. > Sir John Findlay was asked at his meeting last night if he favoured the payment I of ° extra emoluments'to Supreme Court : Judges. , '' i He said he had no doubt the question iwas aimed at Sir Robert Stout. He was ; positively ashamed at the manner in which icertain men in public life have charged I Sir Robert Stout with allowing bis judgement to be affected by receiving money ; from the country. - Judicial corruption -is 1 what the charge amounts to, and -for any man to charge the Chief Justice with that is base ignorance, and contemptible. Sir ; Robert Stout did not : seek the work referred to ; it was offered to him. He was asked tq work 18 hours a day on special duty, for which be was well fitted. 1 - “I know the man against whom -this i charge-’ of judicial ‘corruption is made,’’ ‘said Sir John, “and I say his heart beats for his country,' and that his name wi.l liv e long after those'of bis-critics and maligners are forgotten, -!
