REPRODUCING A MINE DISASTER. NEW YORK, November 2. v\ ith a real mine explosion as a practical demonstration of the way in which such disasters are brought about, the annual session of the Mine Safety Association was opened in Pittsburg yesterday, in the presence of President Taft., P ur poses of the explosion some old abandoned workings were utilised These were filled with coal dust, which was then exploded by means of electrical appliances. This was followed by a demonstration of rescue work, in’ which men equipped with air helmets entered tne pit and brought forth dummy figures thht were supposed to represent the survivors of the disaster.
