THE COMING ELECTIONS.

THE PATEA SEAT. Mr. O’Dea at Rapanul. Mr O’Dea had a splendid meeting at Rapanui on Thursday night. Mr J. A. Tvurth "resided. The candidate was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, on the motion of Mr Hodges, seconded by Mr Bason. In moving the vote Mr Hodges said that, although lie had that day nominated Mr O’Dea for the Patea seat, ho considered (that confidence should be left for the ballot box. Mainly as the result of Mr O’Dea’s speech it is considered that this centre, at last election a Conservative stronghold, will this time return a big Liberal majority. A very large committee was formed after the meeting with Mr Kurth chairman, and Mr Gibbard secretary. Mr. P. O’Dea speaks at Mosstown on Monday evening, at Westmorc on Tuesday evening, and at Brunswick on Wednesday evening. All meetings at 8 o’clock. Mr. C. V. Pearce at Rapanul. Mr. Pearce spoke last night in Mr. G. Handley’s woolshed to a most enthusiastic audience that taxed tho seating accommodation to its utmost. Mr. Jas, Hodges filled the chair, and introduced tho speaker. After speaking for ono hour and a half on the most important questions of the day and answering several questions satisfactorily, ho was accorded on the motion of Mr. G. Handley, and seconded by Mr. F. Mouli. a very hearty vote of thanks for his ablo and interesting address, and confidence in him as their future representative. On this being put to the meeting it was carried unanimously. THE WANGANUI SEAT. Mr. Hogan’s Candidature. Mr Hogan’s committee met in the Fire Brigade Hall last evening, when there was a large attendance. The candidate briefly addressed those present, his remarks being well received. Excellent reports were banded in, and judging from these and the enthusiasm shown, the prospects of the campaign were considered very" bright and encouraging. Another reminder is given that Mr Hogan will deliver his opening address to the electors in the Opera House on Tuesday evening. Mr. Veitch’s Candidature. Mr Voitch speaks in the Gonvillo Town Hall on Monday evening nest, at 8 o’clock. Mr. Veitch’s committees moot next week as follows: Executive committee, Tuesday, at 7 p.m., general committee, Wednesday, at 7.30 p.m.; ladies committee. Thursday, at 2.30 p.m. All committee meetings will bo hold in tho permanent committee room, Druids’ Hall, and full attendances arc requested. Mr W. A. Vcitch addressed the electors at Wanganui East last evening, our report of the meeting being crowded out of this issue. THE WAIMARINO SEAT. Mr. R. W. Smith, the Liberal candidate, w'ill address tho electors at Okoia at 8 p.m. next Tuesday, at Taylorvillo in Mars Hill School at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and at Marybank at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. On Thursday Mr. Smith will speak at: Upokongaro at 8 p.m. . Mr. R. W. Smith speaks at Mangamahu to-night, and at Fordoll on Monday evening, at 8 o’clock. MR. J. B, HINE AT STRATFORD. (Per United Press Association.) STRATFORD, November 4. Mr J. B. Hine gave an opening address last night in the Town Hall to a largo meeting. The candidate maintained the stand he had taken in the House in criticising the Government, and declared himself in favour of a bare majority on all licensing issues. The meeting was sympathetic, and applause frequent. A resolution of thanks to the candidate and that in the opinion of the meeting the time had arrived when the Dominion should have a change of Government was carried.
