MAHAWATU A. & P. SHOW
(Per United Press Association.) -PALMERSTON N., November 1. The Manawatu A. and P. Show opened to-day in fine weather, though somewhat windy. The entries are not quite up to last, year’s, but a splendid dsiplay of stock will be on the grounds to-morrow. In the art and Technical School competitions Wellington won the most prizes, with Palmerston next. The Governor is expected to arrive this evening, and will open the Show to-morrow. The exhibits in the art and fancy needlework classes were somewhat disappointing, several of the classes having only one or two entries. Wanganui exhibitors were fairly prominent. Amongst the prize-winners, Mrs. H. Hanson (Wanganui) took- firsts for best specimen of coarse eyelet hole embroidery and best exhibit of hedebo embroidery, limited to foiir pieces. Mrs. L. G. Pine (of Aramoho) also carried off firsts for best specimen of fine eyelet hole embroidery and ribbon work. Mrs A. E. Cross (of Wanganui) was another very successful exhibitor. She. obtained firsts for best crochet woollen jacket and best handkerchief satchel, and seconds for best knitted baby’s boots and best knitted woollen jacket. Other prize-winners were Miss Kate Warwick (Marton), first for best Irish crochet woollen, baby’s socks; Mrs. L. Davies (Oparau), best exhibit hand-made lace; and Mrs. G. M. Anderson (Mahoe), first for best exhibit of shadow work. In photography, F. Bubb, of Wanganui, secured a second award, and ML T. Ward, of Inglewood, a second also.
