FATAL FALL. (Per United Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, October 30. George Saunders, a widower, 60 years of age. was killed at Hornby on Saturday by a fall from • the roof of a shed which he wa' repairing. .His neck was broken. SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. NELSON, October 30. Darcy Irvine, a Government staff surveyor, met with a serious accident at the “French Pass on Thursday, sustaining a fracture, of the skull through being struck bv a falling tree. He was brought by Isuncli to Nelson, and now lies in a grave condition in the hospital. DUNEDIN, October 30. In the engineering shop of the Maori Iron Works at Port Chalmers, this afternoon, Philip Middlcditch, an apprentice, w is shifting some blotiis, when he was accidentally caught in the belting of the machinery. He was carried around several times before the machinery was brought to a standstill. Both hie legs were broken below the knee. The injured lad, who is about 20 years of age, was sent to the Dunedin Hospital. SUDDEN DEATH. DUNEDIN. October 30. A sudden death took place on Saturday evening, when Mrs Eveline Emma Kerr, aged 54, widow of the late Mr Andrew Geddes Kerr, accountant, expired while reading a newspaper. An inquest was held this morning, when Evelyn C. Kerr, one of the daughters, said that just prior to her mother falling off her chair when reading the paper, she told witness she was tired, and would have to go to bed. Dr. Jivaus said he came to tho conclusion that death was duo to heart failure, following on effusion of blood behind the heart, , , t , a verdict was returned in accordance with niedicaMest^
