OIL MILL 1 STRIKE. Freni Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright LONDON, October 30. The transport workers at Hull, ’ with a view to supporting the oil mill strikers, haye resolved not to handle goods to or from the mills. Any dismissals will be the signal for a general strike. THE SYDNEY STRIKE. More Steamers Held Up. SYDNEY, October 30. The crews of the Adelaide Company’s ore steamers, Nardoo, Lammerbo and Winfield,- held up by the strike, have been paid off. The steamers are lying in the stream with a good portion of their cargoes aboard. Wheat handlers are working on the deep-sea vessels. Among the largo quantity of produce affected are 3,600 bags of the new crop potatoes in the North Coast Company’s steamers. A WAITING ATTITUDE. SYDNEY,. October 30. There are no important strike developments. Both sides are adopting a waiting attitude. A number of inter-Stato coastal vessels which arrived during the past couple of days, are held up. The crews, permanent wharf hands and clerks aro doing their best to handle the perishable portions of the cargoes. Many of the clerks take the precaution to wear gloves to prevent soiling their hands. MELBOURNE, October 30. After the compulsory conference of representatives of the Steamship Owners’ Association, Wharf Labourers’ and Waterside Workers’ Unions, summoned Mr. Justice Higgins, the Industrial Registrar, it was announced that the Victorian and Queensland Unions were the only two represented, because outside New South Wales they were the only States working under the existing agreement. It had been agreed strongly to urge the Sydney men to resume and loyally to abide by the agreement. They also pledged themselves to do their utmost to prevent the spread of the strike to other States. BUSINESS PEOPLE DISSATISFIED. Received October 31, 10.20 a.m, , SYDNEY, Octobei- 31. Business people express great dissatisfaction at the apparent-inability of the Government to cope with the situation resulting from the strike. They declare that the Arbitration Act is a dead letter. A DISAPPOINTED MINISTER. SYDNEY. October 31. The Hon; A. C. Carmichael is disappointed at the non-acceptance of his offer to do the stevedoring. He states that ho understood the parties who waited upon the Government , were anxious to prevent loss to the producers and country, but he is apparently mistaken. A REQUEST FOR SUPPORT. To Persuade Men to Resume. , MELBOURNE; October 31. The Trades Hall Council discussed a letter from Mr Morris, secretary of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, requesting support in an endeavour to persuade the men to return to work. He states that an agreement honorably entered into has been broken without provocation or notice. Discussion was adjourned. ACTION OF STRIKERS CONDEMNED. MELBOURNE, October 31. ' The wharf labourers condemn the action of the strikers. CLAIM BY CLERKS’ UNION. SYDNEY, October 31. The Clerks’ Union has filed an application before the Wages Board to claim JB3 per week of 39 hours. THE LITHCOW STRIKE. SYDNEY, October 30. Through the medium of a Trades Council deputation, Mr. _ Hoskins lias offered the Lithgow strikers , a slight advance on his previous offers. A mass meeting rejected the offer. LABOURERS’ UNIONS AMALGAMATE. MELBOURNE, October 31. / At a conference of the various Labourers’ Unions throughout the Commonwealth it was decided to amalgamate. The new association will start with a membership of 25,000, and have uniform' tickets at 10s per year. THE MT. LYELL STRIKE STILL ON. MELBOURNE, October 31. The Mount Lyell strike is still on. The company, demand that the men shall return unconditionally. If they do they will grant a conference. The men decline to return until the White question is disposed of satisfactorily. In explanation of the reference to the White question, it may be stated that Norman White is a Union official who, it is claimed, committed a breach of discipline by returning to the mine after he had finished his shift and questioning some of tbs men who were engaged on a contract *Jb how long they had been at work. A fight among the men resulted, and the manager dismissed White. The members of the Union thereupon struck work in corder force the company to reinstate him. THE AUCKLAND STRIKE. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 30. Tho labourers’ strike is still in progress. The Drainage Board met to-night, I and, after full consideration of the matter of sub-contracting, it was agreed by the three parties concerned to meet in conference to-morrow morning. Five delegates will represent each party, and tho Union leaders have given an undertaking that before leaving the conference they i will inform the Board what course they intend to pursue.
