PERSONAL.

Mr C. 11. Walker, who has been on the staff of the “Herald” since he left school, and who has been manager of the Herald Company for over fifteen years, has resigned his position, to which Mr 11. V. Duigan has been appointed. Under M' Walker’s able management the “Herald” has made big strides and lias been placed on a thoroughly sound commercial basis, and his secession from the paper is much regretted by his co-workers. His many friends in Wanganui, too, will learn with regret of his departure, for it is his Intention to settle in Hawera; Mr Walker has always taken a keen and active interest in the welfare/and progress of Wanganui and district, and as a member of the executive of the Chamber of Commerce he especially did good work. We understand that he lias arranged to join the-staff of the Hawera Star. After conducting the Star for a great many years as solo pronrietor, Mr W. A. Parkinson has decided on certain changes in the commercial side of the business, and.Mr Walker under the new arrangement secures a proprietary interest, and will, we are sure, add strength to a paper which has long been regarded as one of the best country newspapers in the Dominion. Prior to the commencement of the general business at the Wanganui East Borough Council last evening, the Mayor, Mr John Jones, on behalf of the Council, congratulated Cr. Beaven on his step in recently mining the ranks of the benedicts. He wished Mr and Mrs Beaven long life and happiness. Mr T. Parata, member for the Southern Maori district, retires from politics at the end of the session. Ho has been a member of Parliament for 26 sessions. Sir Jas. Findlav and his family have gone into residence in Parnell.
