DULLER AND LYELL.

[FltOil OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] l'lie lare flood put a temporary stop to all communication between the sea coast and the tip country districts. The fnangahua and Duller rivers have been much Hooded. The hitter rose nearly forty feet tit its junction with tiie Itiangahua, hacking the waters of the latter river upon Mr Mindermanns grass paddocks, and drowning one of his bullocks and several lambs. It is feared a great number of young cattle have perished, as all the low lying land up the Inangahun Valley was flooded. A considerab'e amount of damage has b o;i done on the tipper Duller and Ma*nkitaki to miners'property. Several of the :;: ners have had their sluiceboxes swept a'-' ay and their tail races fiih'd up. Great dissatisfaction exists amongst tho settlers nnd miners at the inability of the Road Board to keep the roads in passable condition. Most of the track-! ate in a wretched state. Considerable, activity in mining operations has taken place in Boatman's, owing to the reef being struck in the Ilit-or-Miss claim. The reef is two feet six inches thick, and shows very good gold. This is encouraging as a few weeks back the claim was considered worthless. The cargo bo-.Us belonging to Messrs White and Croawell, which left Westport on the 20th ult., are moored at the Okika, being unable to proceed owing to tho flood. Montgomery's boat arrived fiotn the Inangahua this morning (2nd instantj, bringing the Reef ton and Lyell mails, nil e passengers, and live horses, making the run down in four hours. Amongst tho passengers was Mr Walker, run holder at the Amuri. Mr Walker, together with Messrs John and James Rochfort, were the first European visitors to the West Coast, fif een years ago. A large slip has taken place on the new dray road, near Ooirtney's post> office, but the road overseer is now clearing it away.
