IN JUSTIFICATION.

It will bo remembered by our readers that the subjeot-inatter to which the following paragraph refers, cropped up at Charleston on the occasion of the recent election lor a member of the Provincial "ottrieil for Uie District of Charleston, and was profusely used by one of" the candidates to the prejudice of Mr. Donne, Beyond congratulating- that gentiemau upon the issue of this painful matter, which must have subjected him to considerable trouble, annoyance, and inconvenience, we simply quote, without comment, as the matter fully speaks for irself:—• The New Zealand Times says: " Roth Houses of Assembly met on Saturday but the business was 'merely of a very formal character, and occupied only a very short, time. In the Lower House, the Hon. Mr Reynolds 1 made an explanation with regard to some remarks which had been made by the Minister of Justice (the Hon. Mr Bathgate) during" last session, having reference to the discharge of the duties of agent for the Curator of fntestate Estates by Mr Geo. Donne, J.P. Mr Hey nobis supplemented his statement by reading an official document on the subject of the remarks made by the then Minister of Justice, and both the statement and the document went to exonerate Mr Donne from the insinuations which, under misapprehension, had been made against him. The explanation was specially made with a view to its beingrecorded in Hansard, in which the previous statement bail been reported.''
