WESTPORT DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The monthly meeting of Committee was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Court House, Dr Giles in the chair. The members of committee present were Messrs Day, Gilmer, Fielder, Munson, Whyte an d Ings. A letter was received from Messrs T. Bailie and J. W. Humphrey, tendering their resignations as members of Committee, "in consequence of being contractors for hospital supplies." It was resolved that the resignations be accepted, the committee expressing regret at losing the services of Messrs Bailie and Humphrey, and directing the Secretary to request Mr Bailie to still assist with Mr Powell in canvassing the Addison's district for subscriptions on behalf of the hospital. A letter was received from the Provincial authorities, signed " Wm. Rout" on behalf of the Provincial Secretary, and asking when the present engagement of the House Surgeon would cease. Stating as reason for such enquiry that it was the intention of the Executive, at the end of such term, to discontinue payment to the House Surgeon of customary allowance for attendance on sick persons at Westport gaol. Upon discussion, it was considered that the subject bore no reference to the engagement between the House Surgeon aud Committee, and the chairman was requested to write in reply intimating this opinion. On the motion of Mr Whyte, seconded by Mr Gilmer, Messrs Fleming and Rowlands were elected members of Committee, vice Messrs Bailie and Humphrey. The Chairman reported that the last requisition for £IOO from the Provincial Treasury was refused as being in excess of present proportion of vote. The Treasurer reported that pay. ments for current expenditure were six weeks in arrear; The Secretary reported that Messrs Munson and Fielder had given in note of collections on the northern terraces, to the amount of £8 18s. The collectors of town subscriptions promised to make their rounds and send in report within a few days. On the motion of Mr Day, seconded Mr Gilmer, The meeting was adjourned until Tuesday, the 11th inst. The Secretary to notify that the special business to be then considered would be the financial position of the Hospital Committee.
