It is a strange thinp, says the Grey River Argii3, that no one in the Council has taken up tho subject of female immigration to Westland. The Province could readily absorb a considerable number of single women for domestic service. The revenue of Westland for tho quarter ending March 31st last, was only £7700 9s, while the revenue fur the corresponding quarter in the previous year, was £10,509. The estimated revenue for tho current quarter is stated at ,£9747 10s. At present the Courts stand adjourned to September Ist, but it is extremely doubtful if Mr Broad visits the locality again. Should he do so, the constabulary force will no doubt be strengthened by the additiou of officers Hunter and JefiHes, when Messrs Han. M'Lean aud company will probably consider discretion to be the better part of valor. The Grey River Argus says : —lt is the intention of the Westland Provincial Government to bring into force regulations 'for the working of the Miners' Rights Extension Act, 1872- This A.ct was passed for tho purpose of enabling miners to work on both sides of the Grey River without taking out, during the course of one year, two miners' rights.
