RIVER PROTECTION.
(To Hie Editor of the West port Times.) Sir, —Why is it that in again experimentalising on protecting the river bank with fascines, (an experiment by the way that a good many persons in Westport have tried over and over again and found useless,) the slow and costly plan is followed of bringing scrub across the river in the government punt. Ls there not a reserve facing Pahnerston street which requires clearing before it cau be of any use, and could not scrub be taken from that reserve, more cheaply and expeditiously than from the other sido of the river. Killing two birds with one stone is a feat which government men never care to attempt nor Town Councillors to recommend.—l am, &e. 0> T Looker.
