[Per Anglo-Australian Telegraph Agency.] INVERCARGILL, April 15. Since the nomination system of immigration has commenced over 2500 have been sent for from here. DUNEDIN. April 18. Dr Honeywell has been found guilty of manslaughter, through malpractice to a woman during childbirth, when both mother and infant died The sentence is deferred. The nomination to return a member to the House of Representatives, in place of Mr Bathgate, took, place today. Three candidates were proposed —George Elliott Barton, Captain Wales, and J. G-. Grant. A Mr Hullor has delivered an address in Dunedin oil)emigration. WELLINGTON". April 13. The Ilutt railway will be opened tomorrow without any demonstration. The Government have been reluctautly compelled to adopt this course, owing to the quantity of rolliug-stock on the line being so limited as to make it impossible to convey any large number of persons. April 15. The Messrs Erogden gave a grand ball last night to celebrate the opening of the Ilutt Railway. Over 500 persons wee present, including the Premier, Superintendent, Mayor, aud members of the Legislature. NEW PLYMOUTH. April 13. The agent of tho ZST.Z.S.S. Company has received notice that no more cargo will bo brought by the Company's steamers. The Herald says it is a foolish act, as the southern merchants will be tho sufferers, because the storekeepers hero will remove the trade to Auckland, and other steamers are obtainable.
AUCKLAND. April 13. The election of Joseph May for the Franklyn district for the General Asscmbly is considered certain. At the South British Insurance Company's half-yearly meeting to-day there was shown £52,711 now invested, and £IO,OOO added to the reserve fund, making it £20,000. Half-a-crown per share was added to pay up the capital and £7822 carried forward. Mr Meikle, the engineer of the Murray, has tested the coal from the AVhangarei mine lately opened, and reports it equal to the Bay of Islands Coal. It burns more fiercely, with a clear flame and less smoke. He believes it will be found ecpial to any in New Zealand. April 15. The ship Dorctte, 83 days from Gravesend, has arrived here with 2-31 Government immigrants—lol single men, 110 married couples, 37 single women. The ship has been quarantined, there having been several cases of scarlet fever on board. The last case occurred ten days ago. No deaths. The immigrants generally in good health. There is little doubt that Sullivan has left here. His destination is kept secret.
