A GENUINE ARTICLE.
" Timon," the funny man of the Soutbern Mercury, says an advertising echo floated into his Tub the other day, all the way from the West Coast. "It has tho rare charm of honesty. One Jones, who seems to have opened
an hotel on purely philanthrophic principles, naively announces that ' as Christmas comes but once a year," (at the West Coast, that is) he — Jones —' in studying the interests of his many friends, and to give a treat to the miners during the holidays, (not only ' his friend*' but even ' the niiuers,' you see, are to be considered by this thoughtful man) has determined to supply them with * the genuine article," in the shape of brandy " until after the New Year !'' There's a gem for you, my boy ! Jones is a publican and he may be a siuuer for all L know; but he is going to do the square thing for one week, anyhow. It would be impertinent to ask what sort of ' article' he will ' supply' during the remaining fifty-one weeks. Let us be thankful for small mercies."
