[Anglo-Australian Press Telegraph Agency] WELLINGTON. January 23. The regatta was a dead failure, the wind being too strong. The course had to be altered, and all arrangements were upset.
The yacht Hind was upset, and it is reported that two men are drowned. It is certain one is.
DUNEDIN. January 22. Captain Johnston, late of the Surat, has been arrested at the instigation of the Government, and lodged in gaol, on a charge of culpable negligence in being drunk and refusing to hail the steamer Wanganui at the time she passed his sinking vessel.
