BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At the adjourned meeting held on Friday evening, all members being present, the following business was transacted:—

A report of the Public Works Committee was read aud adopted. The reeommendatious of the Committee were these : 1. That tenders be invited for work on Palmerston street as per specifications prepared, commencing at Wallabi street.

2. That tenders be called for that section of Palmerston street extending from point marked A to point B on plan. 3. That tenders be called for that portion of Palmerston street marked B on plan, to Wallabi street.

4. That tenders be called for that portion of Wakefield street from Palmerston street to M'Leod's wharf.

The report of the Finance Committee, suggesting that an application be made to the Provincial Council for half the amount of money arising out of the sales of land within the Borough, and that the Provincial Council be applied to for the purpose of recommending the borrowing of £IO,OOO for Public Works within the Borough and that such sum be included in any money proposed to be borrowed for Public Works within the Province, was adopted. It was proposed by the Mayor and carried, " That the Finance Committee be empowered to give effect to their recommendation." NOTICE OF MOTION By Cr. Organ : That a communication be addressed by the Council to the Waste Lands Board embodying the following recommendations:— 1. That the Reserves bounded by Palmerston, Henley, Eussell, and Brougham streets be surveyed and sold iu Westport by public auction.

2. That the Reserve known «is Britannia Square bo reser/od for public buildings. 3. That Ihe Waste Lands Board withdraw from sale that block of land bounded by Peel, Derby, Lyndhurst, and Brougham streets, in lieu or Britannia square, and take steps to procure any part of same that may be alienated by excbauge or purchase. By the "Mayor: That at the next weekly meeting the subject of advertising and printing be considered by the Council.
