BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of the Counwas held last evening. Present—• the Mayor and Crs. Sheahan, Whyte, Mian son, Organ, and Blackiock. CORRESrON DENCE. From Mr J. B, Fisher, on behalf of Pitt aucWisher, making application for section in new township. Letter received, and clerk instructed to informapplicant that no applications from parties simularly situated to applicant have, yet been granted by the Council, nor, so far as the Council was aware, by the Commissioner. From .Tames Olive requesting in-, terview with Council re removal of tramway from Palmerston Steet, and also as to completing portion of necessary work in that street on terms of payment extending over twelve months. Eoferred to Public Works Committee. accounts. Mr J. B. Fisher's claim for £3 12 Bd, legal charges, was passed for payment. AUDITORS. The thanks of the Council were recorded to Messrs Corr and Powell for their gratuitous services as auditors of the Borough accounts PUBLIC NOTICE. It was decided the notices be publihed in the Westport newspapers warning owners of cattle, sheep, goats, or pigs straying within the borough that they would be prosecuted. GENERAL BUSINESS. The notice of motion by Cr. Sheahan, "That Part VI., Sub-section 4, of By-laws, enacting that " no registered building or hall used for public meetings or amusement snail be open after the hour of twelve at midnight nor before the hour of eight in the morning, without special permission of the Council," be amended by addition after the word " Council," of the follow sentence, " Provided, bowever, that nothing herein contained shall apply to or alfect licensed hotels, nor interfere with the operations of the Licensing Act," was considered. The discussion ended in an amendment by Cr. "Whyte beiug cai-ried. Such amendment being as follows :—" That the regulation be referred back to the Bye-laws Committee for revision. It was proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Munson, and carried, " That the regulations made and approved of by the Council, ruder tbe following Parts, Divisions, and Subdivions, of the XIII., be passed and advertised in accordance with the Act, so as to bring them into operation within the Borough : —Part 1., Subdivision 1 and 9; Part V., Sub-divi-sion 1; Part VI; Part VII., Subdivision, 2; Part VIII., Sub-divisions 1 and 2 ; Part X., Sub-division 3 and 4. NOTICES OF MOTION. By the Mayor—" That at the next meeting the following alterations be made in Carters Regulation Bj-law : Section 11., re Loads, after words " 20 cwt " the words or 40 cubic feet" be added. lie Charges, that 3s be substituted for 2s 6d ; and 4s for 3s. And also that the following clauses be added, " That an extra charge, equal to one-half of the above fare may be charged between the terms of 8 p.m. and 8 a m.," aud '• The charge for a load from Liiutoul or Wakefield street, along the beach, if beyond St John's Church, to be as per agreement." By the Mayor—" That a solicitor to the Borough be appointed." The next weekly meetiug was fixed for Wednesday, the I7tb January proximo.
