(PKOM A COHRESPONDENT.) Mining matters in this district show increased and healthy activity. The crushing of Break o' Day stoue-at tho Alpine battery has given most satisfactory returns. The 152 tons put through having yielded nearly Sozs to the ton. The Maruia will finish crushing in a few days, and the 220 tons they intend putting through will, it is expected; go about sozs. The Monte Christo will keep on crushing throughout the holidays, and the shareholders anticipate the wherewithal to take their ease thereafter. Things are looking very well indeed, and the share market is. more' brisk than it has been for a long time previously. Messrs Mace, Morris Levy, •Mr Wilson of Charleston, and other gentlemen, were on the field last week making large purchases in claims extending from the Little Wonder to the Break o' Day, including several shares in Lyell Creek. Break, o' Day full shares are in demand from £6OO and upwards, but few sellers.
