WESTPORT ANNUAL SPORTS.
A meeting of Committee was held on Friday evening at the Post Office Hotel, when the following business was transacted:— Tenders from 18 applicants were received for clearing the race-course, and it was decided that the tender of William Rathbun, at £6, should be accepted. The work to be done including the clearing of the course to a width of 40 feet from the inside, level with the surface, and the erection of flagstaff's and white flags at a distance of 50 feet apart all round the course.
A. letter from Mr J. Crawford referring to engagement of the Westport Band to play during the race and sports meeting, was held over for consideration at the next meeting of the Committee. It was decided that the booths should be sold by auction at the Post Office Hotel on Monday the 15th inst., at 4 p.m. Terms and conditions to be declared at time of sale.
The following gentlemen were elected as Sports Committee, and requested to arrange programme for early publication:— Messrs John Hughes, Geo. Clarke, H. Stannard J. Blacklock, R. M'Fp.rlane,' D. Emanuel, G. White, R. Carne, and G. Gilbertson. The appointment of Collectors was postponed, but it was decided that subscriptions should be solicited at the Terraces and Addisons, and the Secretary was instructed also to solicit subscription" from Messrs N. Edwards aLd Co.
