WESTPORT ANNUAL SPORTS.

A meeting of the committee was held at Gilmer's Post Cilice Hotel, on Tuesday evening last. Present— Messrs Simpson, Gilmer (Hon. Treas), M'Farlane, M'Keuna, Gothard, Simpson (youth Spit), Gibson, Inga (Hon. Sec), Graves, Colvin, and Herren. Mr James Simpson (Westport) in the chair. The iollowing business was transacted : In the appointment of office-bearers for the ensuing sports the following gentlemen were chosen : —Judge, Mr Falla; Starter, Mr James Simpson (South Spit) ; Clerk of the Course, Mr Colvin.; Clerk of the Scales, Mr 1\ M'Farlane; Stewards, Messrs Watsohn, Gothard, Gibson, lioche, Seaton, M'Kenua, Simpson, and Hughes. Mr Gibson having subsequently declined to act, Mr ilerren's name was substituted in his stead. The Committee appointed to inspect the two courses, at the Miners' lie.-t Hotel, and at the Crawaiti, and to report on the relative merits, reported in favor of the latter, and stated also that i)r Thorpe, the proprietor of the grounds, had very willingly agreed to al 1 suggested arrangements for the public convenience. The report of the sub-committee was adopted, as against an amendment that it should not be adopted. Ways and means were then discussed, and it was decided that out of the Puuds to accrue, £3O net should be set apart for prize money for athletic sports, in addition to entrance fees for such sports, and that the balance of the general fund should be devoted to stakes for horse racing and for general expenses. An amendment that £25 should be given for sports and £25 towards a regatta on .New-year's Day, was negatived, the majority present considering tiiat if any funds remained in baud on the 30th December, a donation might be made to a special regatta subscription, as had been done before. (Messrs Falla, Graves, and Gibson here left the meeting.) The prizes for races, and the arrangement of programme was then decided on (as per programme published).

The question of advertising the prrgramme was then gone into, and, after discussion, it was decided that the programme of events should be advertised, as heretofore, in the Westport Times, the proprietors having offered to gratuitously advertise also in the Westport Evening Star and 'Charleston Herald. The appointment of a Sports Committee was deferred, and the meeting stood adjourned.
