WESTPORT ANNUAL SPORTS.

The following extracts from the minutes of proceedings at the last meeting of the Westport Race and Sports Committee, held on Tuesday evening, the 2nd instant, may throw light upon a question whereon some discussion has arisen : Present: Messrs James Simpson (Westport), M'Farlane,Colvin, Simpson (South Spit), Ings, Giliner, Gothard, M'Kenna, and Herren. The question of advertising the programme of races was gone into, and the Secretary was asked to give any information he could as to terms of advertising. He stated the terms upon which tbe advertisement would be inserted in tfie Westport Times, and the additional offer made by the proprietors of gratuitous advertisement in the Evening Star and Charleston Herald. Proposed by Mr Gothard, and seconded by Mr Gilmer, That the programme be advertised in the Westport Times. Mr M'Kenna proposed as amendment that the programme should be also advertised in the Buller News. Mr Gothard withdrew his motion in favor of Mr Colvin's " That the programme should be advertised in one paper only. Mr M'Kenna proposed, and Mr F. M'Farlane seconded, an amendment " That the programme should be advertised in both papers." There being two motions and two amendments before the meeting it was consented to, on suggestion of the Secretary, that all should be withdrawn in favor of a new motion. The Secretary (Mr Ings) proposed, " That the programme should be advertised in the Buller News. Seconded by Mr M'Kenna." Mr Gothard proposed as an amendment, " That the programme be published in the Westport Times." Seconded by Mr Gilmer." The amendment and motion were respectively put to the meeting by the Chairman, and, on show of hands, he declared the amendment carried. 'The meeting was adjourned, on the understanding that another should not be convened until after Wednesday, the 10th instant.
