UP-COUNTRY MAILS.
(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sir, —As the new mail service from "Westport, Eeefton and Lyell, will shortly commence, and the opening of the Nine Mile road will make a great difference in the journey, I would wish, through your columns, to call the attention of the. Postmaster to the following time-table shewing that instead of taking two days for letters to reach Eeefton and the Lyell it can be done in one. It seems strange in these days of railways and telegraphs that a letter posted at the Lyell takes two days to reach Eeefton—a distance under 30 miles. This is the table I would suggest for adoption : —Westport mails to leave at 6 a.m., reaching Christy's at 1 p.m, returning from Christy's at 2 p.m., reaching Westport same night or early next morning. Eeefton mail to leave at 8 a.m., reaching Christy's at 12.30, Lyell mail to leave at 10, reaching
Christy's at 12, all returning from Christy's at 2 p.m. This will allow the Lyell and Reefton contractors sufficient time to get through in the one day.—l am, <fcc, TR4.VELLEB.
