(Before Joseph Giles. Esq., R.M) TUESDAY, NoVEMBEB 18. POLICE OASES. James Whelan, charged on the information of Michael Peel with using abusive and threatening language, was ordered to find sureties to keep the peace frr six calendar months, himself in £75, and two sureties of £SO each. Failing to obtain surety he was locked up on "Wednesday. James "Whelan, on complaint of W. Morris, under provisions of Vagrant Act, was fined 20s and costs. Ann "Whelan, on complaint of "Wm. Morris. Similar charge. Dismissed with a caution. Elizabeth Blyth, on complaint of William Morris. Similar charge. Dismissed. William Morris, on complaint of James Whelan, charge under Vagrant Act. Dismissed. Mary Morris, on complaint of Elizabeth Blyth. Charge of using abusive language. Dismissed. The parties in these actions were all denizens of the Bright street " Rookery," and had been indulging in a periodical rampage. Robert M'Nee, upon information of Constable Maloney, was charged with cutting down timber within the Municipal boundary without permission from the Municipal authorities. From evidence it appeared that defendant had recently arrived in Westport, and commencing to build a small habitation, had located near the river, in the belt of timber reserved to protect the river bank, and had there commenced to make a clearing. The proof of his actual transgression of the law was imperfect, and the case was dismissed, j defendant being warned to avoid again [ running the risk of conviction. CIVIL CASE. Levi v. Munson. —Claim for £ll 14s Ifd. Goods sold and work performed. A set off for £37 5s was filed. Mr Shapter for plaintiff, and Mr Eisher for defendant. Judgment for defendant, with costs 445. Neil v. Levi.—Claim for £1 8s 6d, bread account. Judgment for amount claimed and costs.
