A. medal for merit to J. C. Bluett, Dumaque and Place, Waikuku, and U. Goulter, for New Zealand flax ; New Zealand wood collections—Honorable Mention : G-. A. Ansley, Eangiora; P. Cunningham and Co. for grain ; J. and J. Meek, New Zealand Agricultural Society, for grain; J. H. Bogers, J. N. Fosswell, and W. D. Wood. For chemical industry : honorable mention : Brown and Campbell, Combes arid Daldy, Henderson and M'Farlane, Luke Nattrass, Owen and Graham, and K. Walker and Co. For substances of food and products of industry : medal for progress to P. Cunningham and Co.; medal for merit to the Canterbury Meat Preserving Company, "W. T. Cawkwell and Co., G. Paunell, Eeeves and Co. Honorable mention: A. Dornwell, J. Gilmour. Texile industry and clothing: medal for progress to Cornelius Thorne. Medal for merit, Agent-General in England, and A. J. Tallerman's Meat Company, at the half-yearly meeting, declared a net profit of £I4OO. It was stated at the meeting that there were fifty-three meatpreserving establishments in Australia and New Zealand, and that 320,000 cases were received last year, equal to 17,500 tons. The total import of New Zealand wool this year was 174,584 bales, of which 91,575 were sold; heavy New Zealand wools gave way in the course of last sales, and are now only Id higher than in May. Superior fleece, washed and combed, command extreme rates. The bank forgers were betrayed by the woman who lived with them. Besides penal servitude, the prisoners are to pay one-fourth of the expenses of the prosecution. The German Emperor's letter to the Pope in reference to the Jesuits is warmly approved of in England. The announcement of Arthur Orton's arrival in England is a hoax. The ship Norfolk has arrived with Harrison's frozen meat.
