BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At the weekly meeting held on Wednesday, present, the Mayor and Crs. Stitt, Suisted, Blacklock, Munson, Organ, and Whyte ; the following business was transacted : CORRESPONDENCE. A letter from H. C. Daniell, Commissioner of Crown Lands, enclosing application from Mr John Sharp, to be forwarded to the proper authorities, on behalf of the Buller Coal Company, for a lease of four chains frontage to the Buller river, next M'Leod's wharf at Wakefield street, and on the seaward, as a coal wharf site. Proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Cr. Organ, That the letter from Mr Daniell be acknowledged and that he be informed that the Council not being in possession of the Reserves could not grant the application, and that Mr Danieli, as Crown Land Commissioner, should be asked to st?te for information of Council who the proper authorities are to whom such application should be referred.—Carried. GENERAL BUSINESS. The Mayor stated, on behalf of the Committee appointed to draft questions for opinion of the Attorney. General re District Revenues Act and Municipal Act, that the same would be forwarded by next steamer. The following accounts were passed for payment: —James Weston, 6s ; Thomas Manseil, 24s ; B, Oakes, 50s ; Timber account, 355; B, M'Connell, labor, £6 10s ; J. E. Virtue, £6. Consideration of the report of the Public Works Committee was further adjourned, and the Town Clerk was instructed to make further enquiries in reference to grants of protection within the Borough.
