The number q£ votes recorded by electors on the roll was 222, and by holders of miiiors' rights, 63 ; total, 255. The financial result of the concert on Monday evening last represents an addition of same £l2 to St John's Church Funds. It will be noticed that Dr Carr has returned to Westport, and will, on Sunday next deliver a lay sermon in aid of the funds of the Distcict Hospital. Dr Carr has won a wide-spread reputation as an eloquent preacher, and tho good in tent he expresses towards a local institution will doubtless be appreciated as it deserves. Dr Carr lectures at Addisous on Saturday, and will hold his farewell public seance at Westport on Monday next. Tho Nelson Mail of a recent date says . We are surprised to learn that many m embers of tho community understand that tho special prize list comprises all the prizes that will be awarded at the Exhibition. From what has reached us, however, we find it is necessary to state that many other prizes, the amounts of which have not yet been decided upon, will be offered for competition for articles exhibited, in accordance with tho list already published by the Committee. Tho District Board election at Charleston resulted in the following persons being elected out of seventeen candidates:— Messrs Daniel M'Corxnack, Dennis Kelly, Alexander Eoulston, Alexander Grant, Eobcrt Codrington Parker, and Thomas Georgo M'Carthy. The total number of voters was 293, of whom 214 voted on Electoral roll qualification, 51 on miner's rights, and 28 votes recorded were informal. Negociations have been held between the Break o'-Day, Maruia, Maloney's, and Monto Christo Quartz Mining Companies, and the Alpine Company for tho use of the machinery of tho latter, and arrangements were so far satisfactory concluded by the delegates sent down to Westport last week, that tho mere formal ratification by the directors is only needed. Tho arrangements as proposed will bo advantageous to all parties concerned.

Two accidents have occurred at Charleston during tho past few days.. Tho Herald reports that —Mr Edwards was engaged in taking down an old water-wheel, on Candlelight) when n portion gave way, and iu itj fall struck him severely on the left arm, hot fortunately breaking no bones: and also that a case of accidental drowning occurred at Candlelight, on Saturday last. A sou of Mr William Vox, a smart little fellow of seven years, accidentally fell into a water-hole and on his body being recovered life was found to be extinct.

Mr ©'Conor's public meeting at Charleston resulted in a proposition being carried affirming his fitness to contest the forthcoining election far the Superintendenoy of the Province of Nelson. An amendment, " T'aat in tho 02)inion of this meeting it is undesirable to express an opinion" was negatived.
