An endeavor is being made to supersede horse-flesh in the working of tramway cars in England. A steam tramway ear has just been constructed by the Olbury Carriage Company, on designs suppied by Mr Graham, C E. In the middle of the car, fuel and. a boiler of eight-horse power are placed in well fitted chambers, so as to prevent any undue radiation of heat inside the car. The machinery is in close proximity. The weight of the car is about a ton and a half in excess of the general tramway car, but at the same time, more accommodation is provided, fhe trials which have been made in London are exceedingly satisfactory, the mere jot of steam proving no objection in practical use. The steam car can be readily stopped or set in motion, and the cost is about the same as that of au ordinary car with horses complete.
