ELECTORAL DISTRICTS BILL.
An Act to alter tho Electoral Districts and niimber of members of the Provincial Council of Nelson.
Whereas an act was passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Nelson, in session XIX number 1, intituled " An Act to determine the number of members of the Provincial Council, and to appoint Electoral Districts in the Province of Nelson," and whereas another act was passed hy the Superintendent and Provincial of the said Province, in Session XXII, number 6, intituled " The Nelson Electoral Districts Act Amendment Act 1872," aud whereas it is expedient that the said first mentioned Act should he repea'ed: Be it therefore enacted by the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof as follows : 1. The short title of this Act shall bo " The Nelson Electoral Districts Act Amendmemt Act 1873." 2. " The Nelson Electoral Districts Act Amendment Act 1872" is hereby repealed.
3. The Provincial Council of the the Province of Nelson shall consist of twenty-two members. 4. The Electoral District of Buller, as constituted by the first recited Act, shall be divided into three districts, for the election of members '.for the Provincial Council, to be called respectively the Westport, the Inangahua, and the Buller Districts, and the Electoral District of Grey shall be divided into two districts, to be called respectively the Grey and the Cobden Districts, and the boundaries of the said districts shall be those particularly set forth and described in the Schedule and Plans hereunto annexed. 5. The number of members of the Provincial Council to be elected for the several districts shall be as follows : Eor the "Westport District, Two Members. Eor the Inangahua District, One Member Eor the Buller District, One Member. Eor the Grey District, Two Members. Eor the Cobden District, One Member. 6. "Within three months after the passing of this Act new Eolls shall be formed for the said Electoral Districts, by the proper officer for that purpose. ScnEDtriE.
Tho Westport District is bounded as follows:—On tho Northward bypart of Southern boundary of the Provincial Electoral District of Golden Bay, being a line from the mouth of the River Mackay, 19 miles in the direction of Mount Arthur; thence by the Western boundary of tho Waimea South Provincial Electoral District, being a line 27 miles north and south magnetic to a point on the Southern boundary of the Waimea South Provincial Electoral District, 35 miles east and west magnetic from tho Tophouse ; thence by a continuation of the said line Westerly, 9 miles to a point on the Papahaua Range, at the head of the river Mokihinui; thenco along the Papahaua Eange to a point on river Duller, 2 miles below its junction with the Inangahua; thence following the Kiver Duller down to its junction with the Black. Water; thence up the Blackwator to its source, and on to the Paparoha Eango to a point on the Eastern
boundary of the Charleston District-, at the head of the Eiver Nile; thence along the range in a Northerly direction t6 Buekland Peaks; thence following tho watershed between the Eiver and Totara to the month of the Totara Eiver; and thence following tho coast line to niouth of the Eiver Maekay, from whence this description commenced. Tho Cobden District is bbundod as follows:—On the Northward by the Southern boundary of the Charleston District, from Bazorback Point to a point on the Paparoa Eange, being the South-east corner of the Charleston District; thence along the Paparoha Eange to the junction of the Eiver Arnold with the Eiver Grey; thence following the Eiver drey to the sea ; and thence by the coast line to Bazorback Point.
The Buller District is bounded as follows : —On tho Northward by the Southern boundary of the Waimea South District, partly by part of the Southern boundary of the "Westport District, being a right line 44 miles east and west magnetic from the Tophouse to a point on the Papahaua Eange ; thence by part of tho Eastern, boundary of the Westport District, to a point on the Eiver Buller twb niilcs below its junction with the Inangahua; thence up the Eiver Buller to the said Inangahua junction ; thence by a right line in a south-easterly direction 15 miles to a point on the summit of the Brunner Eange; thence Southerly along the summit of the said Brunner and Victoria Eanges to Mount Haast'; thence fellowing the watershed between the Eivers Grey and Maruia 10 miles ; thence by a right line east and west magnetic to a point 20 miles from Mount Princess; on the Western boundary of the Amuri District; thence following the said line to Mount Princess ; and thence in a right line to the Top-house, from whence this description commenced. The Inangahua District is bounded as follows : —Commencing at a point on the Paparoha Eange at the head of the Eiver Nile; thence along tl*\ Eastern boundary of the Westpo, } District to its junction with tho Buller District; thence along part of the Western boundary of the Buller District to Mount Haast; thence along the watershed between the Bivers Grey and Inangahua to the said Paparoha Eange. The Grey District is bounded as follows : —On the North partly by the Southern boundary of .the Inangahua District, and partly by the Southern boundary of the Buller District; being a line already described from a point on the Paparoha Eange at the head of the Eiver Nile to a point 20 miles from Mount Princess, on the Western boundary of the Amuri District j thence by a right line to the northern shore of Lake Summer • thence along the Northern shore of Lake Summer and up the Eiver Hurunui to its source : thence to the saddle between it and the Eiver Teremakau ; thence by the boundary lino between the Province of Nelson and the County of Westland to the junction of the Eiver Arnold with the Eiver Grey j and thence by the Eastern boundary of the Cobden District, aud part of the Eastern boundary of the Charleston District to the point on the Paparoha Eange, from whence this description commenced.
