The purport of the message was that his Honor had done all that po: <ibly could be done to further the wishes of the committee, and that he thought little good could at present arise from sending a deputation to Wellington, the Minister of Public Works having promised that after receiving Dr Hector's report he would Bend down a practical engineer to toport as,to tie works best adapted for opening up the coalfield. It was considered that the principal duty of the committee lay in urging on the speedy survey of the railway Hue from Westport to Ngskawhau, and a telegram was despatched to the managing director of the Albion Company, with a view to arrangements for United action between the company and committee. A sub-committee was rpjiointed to co-operate with the promoters of the Albion Company in obtaining the names of residents in Westport willing to take shares iu the new company. It being necessary to telegraph to Auckland during the present week, the probable number of shares required for Westport.
Last night a telegram was received from Mr Beetham stating that he would be in Wellington on the 30th, and after interviewing the Honorable Mr Richardson would communicate with the Committee.
