WESTPORT GRANTED a MUNI CAPALITY.

Tho Governor 1m granted Westport a Municipality. Will be gazetted to-day or to-morrow. The Hon. Mr Reynolds is to be the new Colonial Secretary. The Wellington Provincial Government proposes to borrow £210.000, by issuing debentures at interest not exceeding five and a half per cent, for public works in the province. The Government has authorised Mr Thomas Russell, of Auckland, to proceed to America per Nebraska to enforce the penalties against Webb. Mr Vogel left last night to instruct him.
The Government has instructed the Agent-General to provide increased accommodation and comfort for emigrants.

Knatchbull Hugesson, Under Secretary for the Colonies, has introduced into the House of Commons an amended Customs Bill, in accordance with a promise by Earl Kimberley. Power is given the Victorian Legislature to enact laws remitting and imposing import duties As regards other colonies such power is being impartially exercised intercolonially.
