AUCKLAND. Feb. 20. The barque Lion has been totally wrecked on the Whangapoa bar. The crew escaped in the boats. The cargo was insured in the New Zealand Office for £4OO. The vessel was insured in Sydney. Messrs Vogel and Reynolds are expected at Auckland by the Hero. Soiled, to-day, tt« Nebraska, for Honolulu. DUNEDIN. As it was reported there were cases of measles on the passage, the Charlotte Gladstone was detained in antineDr Burns has resigned his seat on the Board of Health, owing to the Charlotte Gladstone being so soon admitted to pratique. The captain of the vessel says the immigrants scarcely underwent any medical examination, and were diseased when shipped. WELLINGTON. The Government intend introducing Education and Bankruptcy Bills. The former is in its main features similar to Mr Fox's Bill; but the proposed Bill will be of an empowering character, enabling any Province that chooses to adopt it. The Government also intend to introduce a bill to define more exactly and to increase the powers of Provincial Legislatures to pass measures heretofore deemed ultra vires. The governor has given 100 guineas towards founding scholarships in the New Zealand University. The Public Works Department is preparing large topographical and geological maps of the colony for the Vienna Exhibition.
