DEPUTATION TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.

(communicated.) A deputation consisting of Messrs Braithwaite, Barrie, Harrison, Riding, Dunn, and Mullans, appointed at the late meeting at Giles Terrace to bring before the notice of his Honor the resolutions passed at that meeting referring to tbe means of transit across the Orawaiti, were introduced by Mr E. J. O'Conor, and accompanied by the Rev. Mr Souter, and Mr J. W. Humphrey. They presented a petition praying that the Orawaiti bridge might not be removed, but put in suitable repair for free traffic. The substance of his Honor's reply was that the petition would receive his favorable consideration. That he would confer with Mr Dobson. the Provincial Engineer, and-should he report that the condition of the piles of the present bridge would admit of the structure being repaired for horse traffic, it should be done, or at all events, it should be utilised for foot passengers. His Honor courteously replied to all the questions put to him, and further stated that the Government had in contemplation the building of a permanent bridge, but financial and other reasons at present interfered. Thanking his Honor, the deputation withdrew.
