Monday, Febeuaet 24.

(Before his Honor Judge Harvey.) There were no criminal cases, and the jury summoned to attend were discharged at the opening of the Court. IN BANKRUPTCY. Ee J. A. Jacobsen.—lnsolvent was examined by Mr Fisher, for opposing creditors, as to earnings during last twelve month, which he averred were merely nominal, amounting to a few shillings now and then. A piece of land he once owned he had sold for £2OO and therewith paid some debts. To his brother £l5O, money borrowed, and also small sums to various other parties. Insolvent then went to Melbourne, and had at that time £4O or £SO. Spent it all there. The day before filing went to Jules Simon, a creditor* and offered him £8 lis, out of £ll or £l2. Had received a summons from him the day previous to filing. Had during last two years spent more than £l5O on account of wife's illness. Before going to Melbourne was not living with a prostitute. Maria Jennings lived at the back of his house, under tho same roof, but not with him. Did not have meals together with her frequently, only now and then. The police never broke in the night before be Went away to Melbourne, and turned the insolvent, Jennings, and others out. Did not know whether Jennings was taken to the lock-up afterwards. The Court ruled that the latter part of the examination had shown that insolvent had not led the life of an industrious man, and suspended the granting of certificate for six months. Ee the Westland Company.—Mr Button appeared for self and other contributors, and Mr Guinness for self, Morris Levy, J. Fitzgerald and

others. Application was made on behalf of official agent to file amended statement settling amount of contributories, in lieu of first statement, containing certain miscalculations. Counsel Btated that contributors were willing to accept the amended statement with the exception made on behalf of Morris Levy that two amounts had been paid by him as calls, one on behalf of himself, and another for J. Fitzgerald, but of which one entry appeared in the bank book. The Court left the matter for settlement with the Official Assignee, and made order for payment of claims Under amended list of contributories. Re Pell and Atkinson.—The remainder of the sitting of the Court was taken up with examination of Walton Pell. The case will be resumed at 10 o'clock this morning.
