AUCKLAND. Subscriptions in aid of the Martin's Bay settlers are being collected. The Rev. Mr Porter is lecturing on their sufferings, and relates harrowing de« tails how men and women starved, and witb tender children had to live on roots, seabirds, fish, &e. The Superintendent promised assistance, but the Executive opposed. £ls was collected at the close of the lecture. The imports for the quarter were £315,385. The Bella Mary, from Hobart Town, reports hops dull ; wheat, 6s 3d ; flour, £l4 ; potatoes, 6s to Bs. NEW PLYMOUTH. Major Atkinson addressed his constituents on Monday, and received a vote of thanks. .WELLINGTON. A movement is on foot to present a souvenir to Lady Bowen, and give the Governor a farewell dejeuner. Nomination for the Superintendency takes place on the 24th. The Wonga took to Sydney 25,1760z of gold, valued at £87,545. CHRISTCHURCH. C. W. Turner proceeds to London by the Dacotah, to initiate the business of the New Zealand Shipping Company, and will probably remain a a year. Owing to the drought the crops will be 15 to 18 per cent, below the average of last year. Exhibits for the Vienna Exhibition per Alhambra, comprise 28 cases. DUNEDIN. Fish, Mayor, threatens a libel action against the ' Times.' A large fire occurred in George street on the 15th, destroyed the premise's of George, photographer (lithographer 1) : Kobson, tailor; Gilchrist, painter ; Algie's fancy warehouse, and part of Coventry, tinsmith, and others. The cause is unknown. The damage is estimated at £4OOO. George is insured in the Boyal for £250; Gilchrist, Royal, £2OO, and Victoria, £750 ; Coventry, New Zealand, £2OO ; Algie, Royal, £125. The losses are =4*4000, and the insurance £16*50. The experiments here prove that the Port Molyneux iron sand is better than the Taranaki for manufacturing steel.
