STICKING UP AT THE AHAURA
A telegram was received here yesterday stating that on Tuesday night Mr .Tames Hayes, draper, of Reefton, was stuck up between Reefton and Ahaura, and robbed of 3590zs of gold and some notes, together in value amounting to about £I4OO. The police are scouring the country in search of the robbers.: LATEST PARTICULARS. Greyjiouth, Thursday, 3.13 p.m. The robbery was perpetrated by two armed bushrangers 'on Tuesday, between Erskiue's aud the Ahaura racecourse. Mr Hayes was returning from Half-ounce, and met two masked men. One presented a double barrelled gun while the other robbed a valise, and ordered Hayes to empty his poclcets, after which they allowed him to proceed, promising to murder hitn if he gave information to the police. He went on to the Ahaura, and gave information there, but up to present time no arrest has been made or suspicion of the thieves arrived at.
