COLONIAL PRODUCTS EXHIBITION.
A meeting of the Westport Committee was held at the Empire Hotel on Friday evening last, Dr. Thorpe in the Chair. The Secretary read minutes of last meeting which were confirmed. Correspondence from Nelson, Reefton, Lyell, and Charleston, were read and commented upon. The following business was then transacted. Proposed by Mr Kerr and seconded by Mr Suisted, that the Secretary be instructed to acknowledge, and reply to letter from Nelson informing the Committee there that the Westport Committee purpose forwarding exhibits direct to Christchurch, and that the Committee, not being at present in a position to forward specimens to Vienna, any arrangements necessary for so doing will bo left for after consideratian. Carried. Proposed by Mr Kerr, seconded byMr Fleming, that the Secretary correspond with agents of steamers relative to conveyance of specimens free, and also asking for information as to time of last steamer before the Bth December, loading for Christchurch, Carried. Proposed by Thos Bailie and seconded by Captain Leech, that owing to the Reefton district sending forward their own specimens, the exhibits sent by this committee be limited, and that a show case & or 10 feet, for quartz and alluvial gold specimens, and space for five exhibits of coal and shale will be sufficient to apply for. Carried. The Secretary reported that he had visited the principal alluvial claims on Caledonian, German, and Giles Terraces, aud obtained the co-operation of claim holders there, to forward exhibits at an early date. Arrangements had also been satisfactory carried out at Charleston. The meeting then adjourned in the usual manner.
