AUSTRALIAN MINING NOTES.
A rich copper mine has been discovered near Burrowa, N.S.W. A 76 ounce nugget has been found at Little River, N.S.W. 250,000 sovereigns have already been issued from the Melbourne Mint.
The Moonta Mining Company, S. A.., has, during the last ten years, paid £OBO,OOO in wages. The quartz miners in Victoria are increasing, and the alluvial miners decreasing, in numbers.
The stone lately obtained in the Cros3 Reef, Stawell, at a depth of SOO feet, has yielded 2ozs Sdwt of gold per ton.
Tho reported discovery of a large diamond at Bathurst is officially confirmed. Smaller diamonds have been found in the same locality Tho export of gold from Victoria during the second quarter of 1572 shows a considerable falling off as compared with the same period of 1871.
The Launceston 'Examiner' reports that a private company, formed in Melbourne, has leased 400 acres of land at York Town, from the Government of Tasmania, for the purpose of working the iron deposits there.
