PATENT STAMP BATTERY.

The ' Tarrengower Times,' of 14th wgUßt, reports that " quite a gatherJg of practical men from Maldon, fendigo, and elsewhere, took place at Jornhill's Reef on Monday afternoon, I occasion being the working of the M patent battery of stamps recently ported from England by the Thornjll's Beef Gold Mining Company., foe battery consists of two stamps *& having a cylinder or jacket worked 1 & crank overhead, which causes the 'amp shank to be acted upon by combed air, the shank thus becoming a (Citable piston rod, and working at W and in a manner somewhat Nlar to the piston rod of a locomotive Pnder, tho motive power being the Npressed air derived from the action I the crank overhead. It was very Nous to those present that very pat advantages would result from the pcentration of so much crushing Per (the battery of two stamps El calculated to crush 120 tons per I* 6 *), within such small space, from i'very little motive power required,

and from tlio low price at which tho workmanship can bo supplied. All present admired its neatness and compactness, but the more cautious are desirous of seeing it Bubjected to months of real work before committing themselves to an opinion of its merits. We think it only a question of wear and tear, and should it bear tho test of time aud steady work in this respect, there is little doubt of its superseding the stamp batteries now in use."
