PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.

The following notices of motion have been given : 13y Mr Curtis : " That in the opinion of the House it is expedient that the Colonial Government, without divesting itself of its responsibility for the proper conduct of public works authorised by the Assembly, or of the sole control of all moneys voted by Parliament, shall avail itself of the services of the existing Provincial organisation : that the duties of the Resident Ministers and General Agents of the Colonial Government shall, in the respective provinces, devolve on Superintendents and Execunive as agents of the Colonial Government, unless it is otherwise determined by the Colonial Government upon its responsibility. By Mr Reynolds : " That, in order to provide for the Colonial Legislature dealing only with subjects of colonial importance, and to secure efficient economical administratiom of the government of the Colony, the existing provinces should be abolished, and two provinces be established, one for the North Island and one for the Southern Island, with a central Gocernment dealing with matters to be agreed on of purely colonial concern, and that an equitable adjustment of annual charges arising out of the burthens of the Colony be made. Further, that a bill giving effect to this resolution be introduced during the present session." The Tramway Bill has been passed, the Permanent Officers Salary Bill read a second time, and the Licensing Bill has been considered by a Committee of the House. The postponement of clauses 1 to 31 was carried by a bare majority, and clause 32, the first of the prohibitory stipulations, has been rejected by a division of 38 to 24. Mr Vogel has suggested the withdrawal of the bill, but Mr Fox has refused.
