Tho ' Independent,' in an article to-day, admits tho weakness of the Ministry, and says it is probable a direct vote of want of confidence will be moved after the Budget, in which case the Ministry will have a hard fight to hold their seats. It also says that a,change is undesirable, though there are many' short comings and mistakes.
DUNEDIN. Mr R. S. Cantrell has resigned his seat in the Assembly, for Cavergham ; on account of illhealth. HOKITIKA. There is a movement afloat to induce Mr Brogden to construct the Waitnea water-race sccording to General Government plans, assisted by a subsidy and private-contributions. *. Important changes in County form of Government, also in constitution of Road Boards regarding rating and recovery are contemplated. At a meeting in favor of the road to Reefton, the surveyor reported that there were no engineering difficulties in the construction of the road via Bell Hill, and that the route would render 2G.00Q acres of fine land available for sale.
