A SEASONABLE SUGGESTION.

(To the Hditor of the Westport TiMmL, I submit the following for yoiM perusal, and if you should think fit WH? publish it do so, if not throw it outsideMg your door, at high water it will likeljMf wash away. In regard to shifting tbaSf town of Westport, why not shift t°Ml the healthiest and safest position cau be fouud in the district, where ground is at least 25 feet above water-inark, and quite safe from encroachment, where at the top G-arden Island there is sufficient depthßL of water for shipping and an exeellantW| site for a substantial wharf. Tho placsH| I should suggest for a township be the first terrace on Addison's where streets could be made at a very■■ little expense, the gravel being the surface. At the back of this to- ■ race there is another terrace witapß about 25 or 30 feet of a rise. "Wato 1

could bo brought along this higher terrace to supply the town, and I behove would give sufficient fierce to work the Fire Brigade hose, and gevcral other industries would, be assisted by the use of water power. I trust and hope that my fellow townsmen before they finally decide to build on this side, will cross the river and see for themselves, for if we build again on this side we are persisting against our own experience and common sense. The ground is Crown Land and unsold. A party, on behalf of the townspeople, could apply to the Warden for, say 100. or 150 acres, lodge sufficient money and apply for a lease. I mean this for safety, in case some of our friends might appiy for it in the meantime. E. "RoWLASDi. Westport, 7th June, 1872. j
