QUARTZ PROSPECTING TO THE NORTH.
(To Hie Editor of the Weslport Times). _ Sir, —Now that atteutiou has been directed to this district by the discovery of payable quartz, I hope that it will not be allowed to cool till a proper prospecting of the entire country north of the Bulle? has been commenced, for it is the opinion of everyone, even the " experienced miner," that quartz reefs north of the Buller await the pick of the prospector, and if specimens can be taken as a guide to the_ richness of reef, those found in the various creeks north indicate stone to which that of the Inangabua or Murray Creek cannot be compared. Imagine, Sir, if possible, the benefit Westport would receive from such a discovery. It would be the only port to which supplies could come. It would have an outward trade for her coal, and whatever benefit there would be in the larger amount of money spent in her midst she would alone have. Is it. not worth an effort to secure this ? Some of those who would be likely to benefit most by the opening up of a reefing to the north, should assist to a small extent by expending a few pounds in assisting some prospecting to be done. It requires no public meeting, no petition to Government, no proposer nor seconder, no speechifying, but bona fide action. - I hear a groat deal about poor trade, no improvement, and such like, but there never will be an improvement so long as the people are content merely with selling what little goods they possess, taking the money and sticking to it.—l am, &e, Growler. Giles Terrace, April 3,1872.
