I The " Melbourne Leader " is pre(entiua: its readers, weekly, with a portrait of a " Successful Colonist." k e issue of 3rd Feb., contains an enlaving of Mr W. J. T. Clarke, of jfoaFlat, notoriety. From the memoir we make the following extract: _"lt is impossible to form an exact (jtimate of Mr Clarke's wealth, but he uust be worth at least two millions iterling. His landed property consists 0 f 120,000 acres in Victoria, 50,000 in Tasmania, 75,000 in South Australia, tnd 45,000 in New Zealand. He has fjluabie town properties in Collins ,treet, Emerald Hill, and East Melbourne. He owns 15,000 shares in the Colonial Bank, and he has a large number of shares in other banks, gas jnd insurance companies, besides large sums lent out on mortgage. His brother Lewis died some years ago, jnd the whole of the vast property by Mr Clarke will be inherited by his three sons, "William Clarke of Sunbury, Thomas Biggs Clark, of Quorn Hall, Tasmania, and Joseph Clarke, of Norton, Mandejille." Mr Clarke's father was a brewer at Bridgewater in Somersetshire, and at his death Mr Clarke became a stock-driver between the Vest of England and Smithfield Market.
