CHARLESTON.
(FROM OUR own correspondent.) In the Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday last Charles Holmes laid an information against Charles Goodman for being a habitual drunkard. Prisoner excused himself, and stated that he had solemnly pledged himself against drink. Mr Broad said he would cot deal with the case as heavily as he had iutended ; but still he could not allow prisoner to go free, and as the holidays were so close at hand during which time there was great temptation, he would sentence him to one month's imprisonment in Westport Gaol. The police laid an information against Mary Smith for neglecting to keep a light burning in front of her licensed house on the Brighton Read. Defendant acknowledged the charge. The Magistrate said that it was upon that especial condition tbe license was granted, and fined defendant £5, or in default one month's imprisonment. In the Warden's Court an application was made by Georga Aldous to obtain an injunction against Miss C. Murphy in order to make her desist from having a piece ot ground fenced, of which he was part owner, the business section being held in the name of both parties. The AVarden said he had no power to make any order in the matter, unless it was brought before him by a summons.
