CHARLESTON.
'OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The Baees and Sport's Committee held a meeting on Friday for the purpose of arranging a programme. It was determined that £3OO should be put into races—one prize to be £IOO, another .£SO, and several smaller sums. Mr Broad was appointed judge > Mr Fenton, starter; and Mr P. Scanlon, •clerk of the course. The result of the heavy rain on Monday last was one of the largest floods that has ever been witnessed in Charleston. Some trifling damage has been done to some of the mining properties. Haines and party's water race has been carried away, which will cause a couple of days' delay to the miners using the water whilst it is being repaired. Comparatively speaking, a very small amount of injury has been sustained in the district. The schooner Day Dawn has been prevented from clearing <out in consequence of the severe weather, and is still lying in Constant Bay.
