Mr E. J. O'Conor, member of the House of Representatives for the Bullor, arrived in "Wellington on the evening of the Bth inst., in the Wanganui coach. He was sworn and took his seat in tho' House the same evening. The Reefton mail reached town on Saturday evening, and was despatched early yesterday morning. Warden Giles left for the Inangahua yesterday. He will hold sittings of the Warden's Court in that district—At Barker and Anderson's store, Reefton, on Wednesday, and at Christy's Inangahua Junction, on Thursday. The following were the quantities of gold exported from New Zealand ports during the quarter of the current year ended June 30, the figures referring to the number of ounces:—Auckland, 63,216; Picton, 582; Nelson, 2787; Westport, 14,374; Greymouth, 20,226 ; Hokitika, 22,756 ; Okarito, 1890; Dunedin, 47,063. The total quantity for the quarter was 174,896 ounces, of the value of £675,582. The value of the quantity exported during the corresponding quarter of 1870 was £483,696. The increase is chiefly due to the returns from the Thames Goldfields. The prospectors, Aram Ross and party, at the rush near the Totara punt, Westland, have four feet of wash-dirt, and about half their prospecting claim is payable. They washed four loads of dirt which yielded of gold. The apprintments have been gazetted of Mr Carruthers to be engineer-in-chief and Mr John Blackatt to bo assistant eugineer-in-chitf under " The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1870." The pedestrian spirts to be held at Greymouth on Saturday, the 23rd inst., comprise six events, viz.. five handicap flat races of 100, 200, 300,440, and 880 yards respectively, and a handicap hurdle race of 440 yards. In five of the raees Hewitt and Harris start at scratch, but at the half mile distance Hewitt concedes to the latter 15 yards.,_..'As our readers are familiar with the running of P. Twohill, who will also take part in the sports, the distances conceded him by Hewitt will be of interest. They are as follows :—IOO yards, a start of 7 yards; quarter of a mile, 40 yards ; do hurdle race, 50 yards; 200 yards, 14 yards, and 300 yards, 20 yards.
