Mr Macandrew's resolutions have been postponed till next Tuesday week. The strike among the printers continues. Some arrived from Napier last night; they say they were deceived, and refuse to work—if they did, all the permanent hands of the office agreed to turn out. The Luna goes to Greymouth to-day with Mr Didsbury to try to get hands. "Wellington, August 28. A few days back the compositors in the Government printing office had refused to accept Is 3d per 1,000, demanding Is 6d. They have now offered to resume work, subject to a full enquiry being made by a committee. Auckland, August 26. A new gas company is being formed to compel a reduction in the price of gas to 10s per 1000 feet. A requisition, containing 4,000 names has been sent to Mr Williamson to again place himself in nomination for the City West. There is a further fall in the share market. Clarke Brothers report a slight panic, and give the following quotations:—Caledonians, £125; Nonpareil, £5 15s ; Thames, £24; Alburnia, £5 10; Otago, £4; Tookey, £3l; Moanatairi, £5 12s 6d ; Central Italy, £2 ss.
