We learn from the " Australian Trade Beview" of the following engagements for the past month : British ship Caldbeck, 761 tons register, Newcastle to San Francisco, at 32a 9d per ton. American ship Flying Eagle, 1004 tons register, Newcastle to San Francisco, at 338 6d per ton. British ship British Princess, 1230 tons register, Newcastle to Bombay, at 30s per ton. British ship Oxford, 1281 tons register, to load here for Calcutta, horses and sleepers, for the sum of £9OO in full. Ship finding water. British ship Alnwick Castle, 1088 tons register, takes coals to Colombo on ship's account, and loads horses at a rate approaching £lO per head. Ship finding water. French barque Barentin, 500 tons register, is on the berth for Batavia and commenced with 150 tons bonedust, at 20s per ton. North German barque Clara and Carle, 230 tons register,«loads chopped bark at Portland for London, at £3 per ton. • •■.-,. ;
For London, shippers are now engaging space at—Wool, fd and |d; tallow, 50s and 55s- measurement goods, 355; leather, 555; chopped bark, 40s.', Bates of freight for coal from Newcastle, New South Wales: —Bombay, 30s; Calcutta, 17a; Galle,2os; Houg Kong, 28s; Shanghai, 325; Singapore, 20s; Mauritius, 20s ; Java, 15s ; San Francisco, 335. The reason why fanners are longlived, is, that every year, they renew the hay day of their youth.
