SEA ENCROACHMENTS.
(To tlw Editor of tlie Westport Times and Charleston Argus). Sib,—The tempestuous weather of yesterday and to-day should serve as an incentive to the people of Westport to Lestir themtelves and attempt some remedy for the threatened destruction. What man could contemplate unmoved the position this town would have been in, had the gales now blowing been from an opposite direction ? What wreck of property? What ruin entailed ? I take this opportunity of again urging the men of Westport to be true unto themselves, to bestir themselves, and before it is too late, to use every possible effort. Let your opinion be heard, and raise your voice in this matter. Be united, one body, and let those who think they will not suffer act as men, and join in sympathy with those likely to suffer. It has been stated that Lieut. Woods, R.N., had reported that much good might be done by opening the channel round the island in the river, a suggestion, I think, worthy of all consideration, and one that should not be lost sight of.— I am, &c., Westpoexiak. Westport, May 19, 1871.
