THAMES MINING NEWS.
Prince Alfred Machine: Monthly Report. —The batteries have only had partial work during the month, and the quantity of stone crushed is therefore comparatively small. Mr O'Callaghan, the manager, reports as follows of" the lots treated, and the return of g o ]d : —Inverness, tribute No, 80 tons, 22 loz 4dwt; Tookey's tribute, Lowe and party, 10 tons, 13oz 15dwt ; Dixon's No. 1,118 tons, 2170z ; Inverness tribute No. 2, 12 tons, 116oz; Imperial Crown tribute, 8 tons, l7oz ; Wakatipu, 23 tons, loz 15dwt; Inverness tribute No. 1, 30 toDS, 98oz ; Dixon's No. 1, 66 tons, 1640z. Totals—347 tons, 8550z. Mo .nataiari Machine: Monthly Re] ort.—Mr Ston<, the manager, repor s that duridg the month of April. 600 tons of stone were put through the batteries, and produced 5190z of gold. The stone came froja the Moanataiari Company s mine Caledonian. —I was in error in telegraphing to ihe effect that sinking the Caledonian main shaft had been resumed. Preparations are being made to go on with the sinking, but will scarcely be completed in less than a week. The preparations I have mentioned are the construction of a chamber on the east side and south end of the shaft to give room to the sinkers in order that the work may not interfere with the general operations of the mine, the only conveniently available outlet from which being the caged partition of the shaft. Dixon's No. I.—Another excellent crushing has been finished for the company at Goodall's machine. Sixty-six tons were put through, and yielded 1640z of melted gold, the rate per ton being 2oz 9dwt 13gr.The stuff was broken out of a part of the lode that fell ovor from the outcrop, and so formed another lode as it were between the main level and the surface towards the claim. It is estimated that there is yet more than 100 tons of quartz left standing in this section of the claim, and that it is quite as good, if not better than, what has been already extracted. By the time, or soon after, these surface workings are exhausted it is expected that the low-level tunnel now driving from the Rose and Shamrock Claim, in the Tinker's G-ully side of the range, will hyve nearly^approached the un-der-lay of Dixon's lode in Dixon's mine. Long Drive. —Clearing up for the month is finished, but retorting has only just commenced. Tookey's Tribute (Work and Party).—Seventeen and a half tons of stone have been crushed in the Tramway machine, and yielded 240z. of gold. Flagship, Hape. —Thirty tons of stone from this mine have been treated at Greene ay's machine, but retorting the amalgam was not finished when I visited the machine this morning. A return of from |oz. to loz. the ton is looked for.
